About the project
Developer Telford Homes approached London architects, Stockwool, to design Stone Studios, located in the heart of Hackney Wick, East London. This would form part of a unique new live-work community from Telford Homes, comprising of five uniquely characterful buildings.
The brief was to design a distinctive scheme, encompassing 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and duplexes, each providing the best in flexible living and reflecting the alternative tradition of ‘loft-living’ and ‘live-work’. This tradition is found in former industrial areas of London and New York which have become the focus of creative industries and related lifestyles.
Stone Studios is a distinctive micro-neighbourhood which has evolved since the beginning of the development with a diverse, eclectic community on its doorstep and a host of bustling amenities from quirky bars, global eateries and independent breweries to vintage markets and live music venues. With this variety of buildings, the materials of any new buildings within this area should follow the wider area design code, featuring robust granite and concrete surfaces, street trees and minimal clutter. This was the ultimate challenge on this Stone Studios project.
