This diverse panel brings together a wealth of experience from across the industry, ensuring a comprehensive and insightful evaluation of all entries.
Head Judge: Jonathan Hall – Executive Director, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris
The Brick Development Association is thrilled to announce that Jonathan Hall will once again serve as the Head Judge for the highly anticipated 2025 Brick Awards. Following a successful tenure in 2024, Jonathan's continued leadership promises another year of rigorous evaluation and celebration of excellence in brick architecture.
Jonathan, a founding director of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), brings a wealth of experience and a keen eye for architectural innovation to the judging panel. Established in 1989, AHMM is an internationally recognised, award-winning practice with offices in Clerkenwell, Bristol, and Oklahoma City.
Beyond his involvement in groundbreaking projects, Jonathan plays a pivotal role in managing design risk within AHMM. This includes spearheading the technical support team and overseeing the legal and appointments team – responsibilities that underscore his comprehensive understanding of architectural practice from concept to completion.
Alexis Harrison - Associate, Arup
Alexis (Lex) is an Associate with Arup Materials in London. He is highly regarded in the industry for his exceptional expertise in clay materials, specialising in brickwork and architectural ceramics. Lex possesses extensive experience in designing challenging façades using clay brick, terracotta, faience, and porcelain, as well as natural stone. His work also encompasses failure investigations and advising on remedial works. Lex designs bespoke brick and ceramic cladding systems for innovative one-off projects and provides consultancy and design services for manufacturers. In addition to his role as a Brick Awards judge, he chairs the Brick Makers Quality Charter Audit and Assessment Panel.
Alison Duxbury - Director, Triangle Architects Ltd
Alison is a Chartered Architect, Masterplanner, and Director of Triangle Architects, an Employee-Owned Manchester-based architectural practice established in 1986. Her extensive experience spans the residential, healthcare, urban regeneration, community, and workplace sectors. Joining Triangle’s management team in early 2019, Alison brought over two decades of design and delivery expertise in high-quality, award-winning new and refurbished large-scale projects, with a particular specialism in navigating complex and challenging sites and buildings.
Amy Napier - Director, Napier Clarke Architects
Amy Napier is a founding director of Napier Clarke Architects, a progressive, award-winning practice established in 2014 in Buckinghamshire. She is renowned for her skilfully executed and contemporary architectural designs across a range of building sectors throughout the UK. With a specialism and enthusiasm for arts, cultural, and residential design, Amy consistently delivers thoughtful and articulated responses to sensitive and complex sites. Before co-founding Napier Clarke, Amy dedicated ten years to Hopkins Architects.
Dave Mills - Business Development Director, Lyons & Annoot
Dave has been a prominent figure in the brickwork industry for almost 20 years, with his focus and passion for the sector being widely recognised. He is a dedicated member of the Training Board of the Association of Brickwork Contractors Assessment Centre, a role he has held since its inauguration in 2018. Lyons & Annoot, the current Specialist Brickwork Contractor of the Year, are not only multi-award-winning contractors at the Brick Awards but also recipients of many other prestigious accolades. Since their initial Brick Award win in 1992 with the Chatham Maritime Building, they have been staunch supporters of these Awards and the aims of the Brick Development Association. Dave’s drive to ensure best practice and a continuous focus on 'always doing better' has enabled the business to explore numerous opportunities in more sustainable products and long-term partnerships.
Dean Degun - Contracts Manager, Swift Brickwork Contractors Ltd
Dean possesses a refreshing enthusiasm for brickwork, taking immense pride in coordinating Swift Brickwork’s Apprentice and NVQ schemes, thereby passing on his vast knowledge to the next generation of bricklayers. His career as a bricklayer began in 1976, and in 1977, he contributed to the high level of decorative brickwork on the Silver Jubilee Gardens project on London's South Bank. Dean transitioned into brickwork management in 1979 and has been with Swift Brickwork Contractors Ltd since 1992. During his tenure, he has had the opportunity to contribute to the design development of numerous iconic projects, including the Turnmill building by Piercy & Company, York House by dMFK Architects and Webb Yates Engineers, the Royal College of Art by Herzog & De Meuron Architects, and the Kensington Palace Orangery by Purcell Architects (Heritage Consultants).
Fiona Scott – Director, Gort Scott
Fiona Scott co-founded Gort Scott in 2007, where she champions strategic design thinking from a project's earliest stages. She is renowned for her pioneering research into high streets and town centres, demonstrating her interest in how buildings and spaces support daily life. As a director, Fiona integrates architectural, societal, cultural, environmental, and policy influences into the practice's work and project design, also overseeing research and special projects. A registered Architect, she studied at Central Saint Martins, Cambridge University, and the Royal College of Art, and was a research associate at the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Inclusive Design. Fiona is also one of the Mayor’s Design Advocates, contributing to London's urban evolution.
Ian Shard - Managing Director, LBT Brick & Facades
Ian qualified as an architect at Liverpool University’s School of Architecture. He entered the brick industry in 1991, joining Ibstock Brick’s sales and technical department. For the past 25 years, Ian has been a driving force at LBT Brick & Facades, where he holds the position of Managing Director (LBT has been part of the Brickability Group for the past four years). He has been involved in a staggering number of brick projects, including many Award-Winning and shortlisted entries for this very event. Beyond managing the office, Ian's primary role is to bridge the gap between the client/designer and the construction team regarding a wide range of façade materials. He is, unequivocally, a brick man through and through.
Luke Tozer -Co-Founder, Pitman Tozer Architects
Luke co-founded Pitman Tozer Architects with Tim Pitman in 2002. Over the years, the studio has developed significant expertise in housing-led regeneration projects both in the UK and internationally. Luke is actively involved in the design and delivery of all projects from their Marylebone studio, where they are currently working on 550 homes in East London and 85 homes in Singapore. Luke is a seasoned Brick Awards judge and has led RIBA Awards juries in East Anglia and Northern Ireland. He has also served on and presented at numerous Design Review Panels and formerly taught at Cardiff University and the University of East London. He is an active member of the Marylebone Association Planning Committee and the Architects’ Company.
Mick Heir - Senior Quality Manager, Marlborough Brickwork Limited
Mick Heir is the Senior Quality Manager at Marlborough Brickwork Limited, bringing over 40 years of invaluable experience in the construction sector. His extensive career includes roles in Technical Services at Carillion and as their Senior Masonry Advisor. In his capacity as Masonry Advisor for Carillion, Mick's crucial role was to ensure all masonry constructed on Carillion projects was properly designed and built in strict accordance with the relevant British Standards and Code of Practice for the use of masonry. Mick holds an advanced craft in Brickwork, a Diploma in CIOB Site Management, and a BTEC HNC in Building Studies. He is a proud member of the CIOB and also serves on the judging panel for the Association of Brickwork Subcontractors’ annual awards.
Sarah Firth- Associate, Haworth Tompkins
Sarah joined Haworth Tompkins in 2016 and was appointed Associate in 2021. She has played an active role in several of the studio's large-scale residential and mixed-use projects, including Fish Island Village, a winner at the 2022 Brick Awards. Haworth Tompkins is a Stirling Prize-winning architectural studio with an international reputation for intelligent, purposeful design. The studio's work consistently explores the versatility of brick across diverse typologies and contexts, aiming to create meaning and beauty while integrating the traditional character and craft of brick making with modern methods of construction. Sarah is a leading contributor to the studio’s Social Value and Human Resources working groups and spearheaded their recent BCorp certification. Prior to joining Haworth Tompkins, she worked at Herzog and de Meuron in Basel and subsequently completed the award-winning self-build conversion of Redhill Barn in rural Devon.
