Forge House, York

By George Spreckley
YHB Nun Monkton 19

Forge House is situated in the conservation village of Nun Monkton, which is located between York and Harrogate in North Yorkshire.

There was a need for a brick which suits the strict conservation standards of the local planning authority and brick slips had to be used due to the fact that the original house was rendered. The Old Clamp Blend 65mm brick slips have therefore been placed on top of the render. Pistol bricks were widely used for angles and details as well as keystones and flat arch bricks above the windows.

The results are pleasing to the eye and suit the village surrounds which are mainly brick. A local craftsman was recruited to do the job and the results are very pleasing.
