About the project
In August 2014, Tony Johnston was bricklaying for a Northwest based bricklaying contractor on a site in Manchester, before issues with the client and the bricklaying contractor lead to the termination of the brickwork contract and subsequently left Tony with no work. Rather than dwelling on the sudden misfortune, Tony saw the opportunity in the situation and approached the client to advise that he could manage the remaining brickwork package himself, to which the client agreed and subsequently Tate Brickwork was born. The word ‘Tate’ emanating simply from Tony’s first initial combined with his lucky number, eight. Thus T8, became Tate.
Going from wearing the many hats of bricklayer, estimator, site manager, health & safety manager, quality manager and quantity surveyor, Tony has grown the company to become a leading specialist Brickwork Contractor in the Northwest region and has built a strong reputation across multiple sectors but specifically large residential and commercial projects.
The ethos behind this success is simply to ‘do a good job for good clients’.
Today, Tate Brickwork is investing in staff through the employment of Contract Management and Administrative personnel together with offering Apprenticeships and on-site learning. Commitment to health and safety is at the forefront of everything Tate does, this starts from the outset during the tender stage, where advice is often provided on safer methods of construction, access etc through to the construction phase with regular health and safety meetings, inspections and toolbox talks. The results of this means that Tate has a clean health and safety record. Furthermore, Tate has continued to evidence its commitment to Quality by recently achieving Construction Line Gold certification.
