About the project
Lee Marley Brickwork (LMB) is a large scale brickwork and scaffolding contractor with operations in Southern England and Scotland.
Our success as a business is built on the skill and quality of our people, be it in their trade skills and/or their managerial capabilities. We specialise in what the Building Safety Act (BSA) would describe as high-risk projects, be it due to their size or complexity, for the UK’s leading developers and contractors. Since the advent of the BSA, LMB has seen a significant growth in its customer base as developers/contractors increase the quality and capabilities of their supply-chains. LMB is working on 56 live projects for 21 clients and has seen its turnover rise from £57.5m in 2021 to £89.5m in 2024 – a 55% increase.
The company has a relentless drive to improve its performance and invests heavily in training its people. It supports its 1400 staff and operatives throughout their career journey with both on-and-off the job training.
This commitment has been recognised with being named the Top SME Apprenticeship Employer in 2023 by the Department of Education and the Princess Royal Training Award twice, in 2021 and 2024, and Investors in People accreditation. Senior management are actively involved in the formulation of new training standards within the industry. COO Dan Clarkson sits on the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Nations Council. Whilst both Dan and Training Manager, Christian Hatherall-Good, work with the CITB and City & Guilds on Level 2 & 3 Apprenticeship Standards and Competency pathways.
Bringing bright, young people into the industry is of paramount importance to LMB, not only because shortage of construction workers but more importantly because young well-trained staff are the bedrock of our company’s success. LMB operates apprentice and graduate trainee schemes and a Future Leaders pathway for trade skilled staff. LMB currently has 117 apprentices in brickwork (92 – 30 in Scotland and 72 in London), scaffolding (22) and Construction Management or surveying (3), 6 Graduate Quantity Surveyors and 1 Graduate Construction Manager.
In 2025 LMB was accredited as an Approved Apprenticeship Provider by the Department for Education and has 56 apprentices running through our own Academy programme. The Lee Marley Academy aims to both accelerate learning but also bridge the gap between apprenticeship curriculums and the skills needed for high-risk construction. The content, structure and duration of the programme is a step change in apprenticeship delivery and a departure from the established method of teaching. Continuous periods of workshop and classroom learning delivered by LMB tutors are combined with practical work experience gained on existing LMB projects across London.
Health and Safety and Quality is accredited to ISO 9001 & 45001, IFC – Fire Safety and the RoSPa Gold Standard for the last 5 years. In 2024 our AFR was zero for brickwork and 0.94 for the business as a whole LMB is accredited to the Science Based Targets Initiative, committing to reduce scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030. Our EMS is accredited to ISO 14001
