About the project

With its headquarters in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Bellway has 20 divisions throughout England, Scotland and Wales – and employs over 2,500 people. Brands also include Ashberry homes and Bellway London, each of which offers choice to meet customer needs.

Motivated by a clear mission to operate in an ethical and sustainable manner, Bellway is committed to driving improvement to build quality and to develop and share best practices to enhance service to customers, and 'Better with Bellway', is their approach to adhering to responsible and sustainable business practices.

Bellway’s business is built around eight priorities; customers and communities, employer of choice, carbon reduction, building quality homes safely, sustainable supply chain, resource efficiency, biodiversity and charitable engagement.

With over 7,000 housing completions in 2024, Bellway is committed to building attractive, desirable and sustainable developments where customers want to live; creating better communities. As a result, the company has recently being awarded 5-star homebuilder for the ninth consecutive year by the Home Builders Federation (HBF). From the homeowners surveyed by HBF, 95.4% said they would recommend Bellway to a friend. In addition, the company also won 45 NHBC ‘Pride in the Job’ awards during the year.

Bellway promotes good health, including workplace stress, amongst employees and subcontractors and is connected with the prevention of occupational and non-occupational disorders and diseases. Mental Health is of high importance, an increase in mental health first-aiders and mental health wellbeing training is being used to increase awareness across the business.

Putting a high emphasis on health and safety, Bellway reported 170.99 RIDDOR incidents per 100,000 operatives in 2024. Through the Bellway Academy, all staff can be upskilled and/or develop new skills. Training days per employee is now a reportable KPI.

To be a company of choice, Bellway is committed to creating an open, diverse and inclusive working environment. Their male/female gender split is currently 66/34 (with an aim to reach 60/40), and representation of ethnic minorities is currently 4.6% of the workforce (with the aim to reach 7% or more by July 2025).

Bellway is an active member of ‘The 5% Club’, which is a commitment to having at least 5% of the workforce employed in ‘earn and learn’ roles, including apprenticeships, student placements, and graduate roles. In 2024, Bellway recruited 22 new graduates and 41 new apprentice roles. In addition, in 2024, Bellway achieved Accredited Living Wage employer status, offering competitive remuneration and benefits, which also supports their ‘Employer of Choice’ priority, aimed at attracting and retaining talented individuals.

In 2024, Bellway continued their partnership with Cancer Research UK, raising £612,722 and bringing their eight-year total to £3.76 million.
