CHELSEA BID TO BUY BATTERSEA POWER STATION

The football club intends to construct a brand new 60,000-seat stadium, while fully restoring the power station’s four chimneys, the wash towers and the west turbine hall and control room. Investments in the infrastructure around the site are also expected to be made.

MPs PROPOSE WAYS TO TACKLE HOUSING CRISIS

The Government has said that the vast majority of this fund should be used to provide external insulation for “hard to treat” properties. This will result in many thousands of homes of all ages being over clad with insulation and then rendered, potentially damaging the performance and beauty of our housing stock whilst creating long term issues.

BATTERSEA COULD PRODUCE ENERGY AGAIN, LONDON GREEN PARTY LEADER CLAIMS

Various plans have been presented for the old power station, including demolishing it entirely to make way for housing, building an indoor theme park, redeveloping the structure for residential and office space or turning it into an urban park. Others have suggested that Battersea should be used for its original purpose – creating energy – but in the shape of bio-fuel this time, which could be produced from biomass or biogas.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT FOR 700 AFFORDABLE HOMES TO LAUNCH IN SEVERAL REGIONS

A Stoke-on-Trent-based construction company has secured a £60m contract to build 700 affordable homes in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle, Telford & Wrekin, Herefordshire, north Shropshire, Worcester and Cherwell by 2015, during the construction process the company is expected to create new jobs by hiring 40 apprentices, in addition to the 150 staff that it currently employs.
