2009 Worldwide Brick

Fuglsang Kunstmuseum, Denmark

Fuglsang Kunstmuseum, Denmark

Architect: Tony Fretton Architects
Brick: Petersen Tegl A/S / Randers Tegl

This building fits easily into the rural setting of the Fuglsang estate which is located in Lolland, Southern Denmark.  The facades are constructed in brick to match the existing agricultural buildings, however the bonding is different, signifying that this is a special building as quarter bond replaces stretcher bond.  The judges would have liked to visit every building in this category but they had to make their decision based on photographs.  These showed a restrained and carefully considered building which won their vote.
