Hull Truck Theatre, Hull

Hull Truck Theatre, Hull

Architect: Wright and Wright
Brickwork contractor: Quarmby Construction
Brick: Ibstock Atlas Smooth Blue,Royston Cream

Robust and durable materials create the industrial aesthetic that was considered to be conceptually appropriate and practically necessary for Hull Truck Theatre.  Brick is used to clad the building inside and out with a plinth of glazed bricks that like the paving, extend from the street into the internal foyers.  The judges considered that this is a building in which brick has been fully exploited as an integral part of the design and after some debate decided to nominate it for the award.
