This extensive house presents a number of "test pieces" to the craftsman.  The judges considered that in every case the bricklayers had responded to the challenge.  Not only is there consistency of line level and finish throughout the structure but the features are incorporated with fluency.  A curved tower gains four square turrets and the doorway is recessed into five concentric brick arches.  Chimneys, gables and arched openings are handled with skill, presenting a pattern book of craftsmanship.
