The Orangery, Maidstone, Kent

The Orangery, Maidstone, Kent

Architect: Inwood Tuck Jones Partnership
Brickwork contractor: EC Gransden & Co Ltd
Brick: Ibstock Brick

The Orangery is a fitting tribute to the skill of the bricklayer master craftsman. The judges were impressed by the beautifully accurate door and window arches which use single cant and standard bricks, allied with the confident use of inverted plinth bricks. Also notable was the raked out Flemish bond brickwork that was repointed in the neatest weatherstruck and cut pointing.
