Lex Harrison, ARUP, to speak at new CPD event

Alexis (Lex) Harrison, designer and Associate of global engineering consultancy ARUP, will appear as a guest speaker at the Brick Development Association’s latest CPD event, Contemporary Brick Architecture: how to achieve material distinction in modern design, on Tuesday 6th June 2017 at the Museum of Science & Industry, Manchester.

A specialist in designing challenging façades in brickwork and architectural ceramics, Lex advises manufacturers on cladding system design, works with landscape and interior designers, and has advised many of the world’s leading architectural practices. Lex will speak on the subject of designing for movement in brickwork, which will cover important technical and aesthetic considerations including developments in specification and application, as well as exemplar modern projects.

Lex’s presentation will complement the programme of workshops and seminars that explore the modern methods employed by brick manufacturers, those that work with the material, and the understated contribution that clay brick makes to our built environment.

Tom Farmer, Brick Development Association, comments

As one of a panel of industry experts that judge the annual Brick Awards, and frequent contributor to leading publications on the subject of clay materials in architecture, Lex will make an invaluable contribution to the day. His passion for clay brick in contemporary architecture is complemented by an impressive resume of public speaking, which includes lectures at MIT, The Architectural Association, Central Saint Martins and the Royal Academy.
